SESSION DESCRIPTION:

This workshop on the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) will review the regulation and discuss ways through which organizations can collaborate more effectively with banks. Topics discussed include an overview of the CRA, understanding the impact of bank performance context, the types of bank activities that qualify for CRA consideration, and strategies to develop successful partnerships with banks. 

PRESENTER: 

Raymond Irizarry is a Community Affairs Officer with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) supporting NC, SC, VA, and WV. Raymond began his career with the OCC in 2017 as a Bank Examiner specializing in Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Fair Lending examinations for financial institutions over $10 billion in assets throughout the country. Prior to joining the OCC, Raymond served as the CRA and Fair Lending Officer for USAmeriBank (acquired by Valley National Bank), a financial institution headquartered in Clearwater, FL with banking operations in two states. In his role, he developed and directed the bank’s CRA and Fair Lending program.

Raymond has also worked at Fifth Third Bank in the Chicagoland area driving corporate-wide bank strategies for CRA. Areas of focus included creating strategies to improve lending, establishing relationships with nonprofit organizations, conducting outreach across several counties. Raymond holds a degree in Business Administration from Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education from Mexico.
